Our Spirits yearn for Home

OUR SPIRITS YEARN FOR HOME fully fleshes out life and its vicissitudes in post-colonial Ghana – exploring mental health, gender, identity, fatphobia and adventure. It explores this through poetry, prose and commentary and is meant to be a book of hope and healing for the downtrodden in modern society.

OUR SPIRITS YEARN FOR HOME explores the perspectives of minorities as well as the downtrodden in modern society. It explores trauma from diverse perspectives but there is also adventure and a sprinkling of fantastical overtones in the writing. The book is a hybrid of fiction, poetry and commentary.

The book takes the reader on a journey of awakening, empathy and healing and reads out cohesively like a memoir even though there are various forms in the writing.

The strength is in its diversity of form and content as well as its expansive scope to entertain all the while deeply engaging complex emotions. It bends the rules and is in many ways, novel and experimental. I like to say this is my social justice project to the world, a proclamation that ‘difference’ is beautiful.
